Dark and Bright Cave (Hang Sáng Tối) is a pair of sea tunnels in Lan Ha Bay, on the boundary with Halong Bay about 12 km from Ben Beo pier on Cat Ba Island. Each tunnel runs roughly 70–100 m through a limestone mountain, with about 3 m of headroom above the water, and opens into a lagoon enclosed by cliffs. You pass through by kayak or rowed boat; it is the signature stop of Lan Ha Bay cruises and Cat Ba boat tours.
Good to know (checked October 2026): The bright tunnel is normally passable. The dark tunnel depends on the tide and has at times been closed to visitors for safety; your crew decides on the day. The stop is covered by the Lan Ha Bay fee (120,000 VND per adult in Hai Phong’s current table), included in cruise prices. Kayaking in the Cat Ba / Lan Ha bays was suspended by local authorities in late 2025; when it is not allowed, cruises use rowed boats, swimming or deck viewing instead, so check the rule in force for your date.
