Halong Bay Luxury Cruises 2026: What You Get and How to Choose
A Halong Bay luxury cruise is an overnight stay on a 5-star-standard ship: balcony cabins, a spa, a sundeck bar and often a pool, with more crew per guest than cheaper ships. A 2 days 1 night trip usually costs about US$150 to US$350 or more per person, depending on the ship, cabin and season.
- Length: 2 days 1 night or 3 days 2 nights
- Areas: classic Halong Bay, Lan Ha Bay or the Bai Tu Long side
- Best for: couples, honeymoons, families and special trips
- Best months: March to May and late September to November

Good to know (2026): prices change by season, date and promotion, so the figures on this page are approximate; the live price is on each cruise page. Overnight ships anchor only in designated areas, and every trip is cancelled when the port authority closes the bay for storms. Kayaking in Lan Ha Bay was suspended by local authorities in late 2025.
What Is a Luxury Cruise in Halong Bay?
Vietnam grades overnight tourist ships from 1 to 5 stars under national standard TCVN 9372:2012. A 5-star ship must offer, among other things, double cabins of at least 14 m² and a suite of at least 35 m². Many companies also use “5-star” in their own marketing, so we only call a ship luxury when the cabins, facilities and service match.
In short, you are paying for space, comfort and attention, not for different scenery. Every licensed ship sails the same official routes.
What to Expect on Board
- Cabins: private balcony or floor-to-ceiling windows, often a bathtub, and suites with extra space
- Dining: set menus or à la carte, Vietnamese and Western dishes; vegetarian and halal on request
- Facilities: spa, sundeck bar and, on many ships, a pool or jacuzzi
- Service: more staff per guest, and butler-style service in top suites on some ships
- Activities: cave or island visits, cooking class, sunset party and tai chi at sunrise
Catherine Cruise: rooftop pools and big sundecks are now common on top luxury ships

How Much Does a Luxury Cruise Cost?
Expect about US$150 to US$350 or more per person for 2 days 1 night, sharing a cabin. Newer ships, suites and peak dates sit at the top of the range.
- Cabin type: a suite can cost far more than the entry cabin on the same ship
- Season: October to April, late December and Lunar New Year cost more
- Length: 3 days 2 nights is not simply double, but adds a full extra day
- Transfer: the Hanoi shuttle is often an extra
- Promotions: operators run seasonal offers, so prices move during the year
How to Choose the Right Luxury Cruise
1. Pick the area first
Classic Halong Bay has the famous caves and the most boats. Lan Ha Bay and the Bai Tu Long side are quieter. See Halong Bay vs Lan Ha Bay.
2. Decide on one or two nights
One night suits most travellers. Two nights add a calm full day in remoter bays; read our overnight cruise guide.
3. Choose the ship size
Boutique ships feel private and quiet. Larger ships have more facilities, more cabin types and more guests.
4. Check the cabin, not only the ship
A balcony is worth it for sunrise. Families should confirm extra beds or connecting cabins before paying.
5. Match your needs
Muslim travellers can choose ships with halal-certified kitchens; see halal Halong Bay cruises. Travellers with limited mobility should ask us about lifts and lower-deck cabins.
